Sk. Bashiruddin was born on March 1, 1974, in Jessore district to Sheikh Akij Uddin and Monowara Begum, Bashiruddin comes from a respected Muslim family with deep ties to business and entrepreneurship. He is a prominent businessman and adviser for Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Textiles & Jute currently serving in the 2024 interim government of Bangladesh.
After completing his graduation, he joined his family business in 1988, where he played a key role in its growth. Following the death of his father in 2006, Sk. Bashiruddin assumed the role of Managing Director of Akij Group with more than 50,000 people and one billion USD in revenue at the young age of 32, continuing his father's legacy and leading the company to new heights.
In 2020, he founded the Akij-Bashir Group, a diversified conglomerate with 18 subsidiaries spanning various industries, including ceramics, Float glass, jute, tea, polymer film, steel, and more. The group operates in three countries and exports products to over 25 nations, playing a crucial role in Bangladesh's economic growth while employing 26,000 people. His business acumen and focus on sustainability have earned him recognition, including the Business Personality of the Year award at the 22nd DHL-The Daily Star Bangladesh Business Awards in 2023. Sk. Bashiruddin's professional journey also includes extensive international travel to countries, where he has built strong global business connections. Under his leadership, he brought the single largest FDI in the history of Bangladesh and also acquired a large Malaysian company in Malaysia.
Sk. Bashiruddin's contributions extend beyond business to public service. On 10th November 2024, he took oath as an adviser to the interim government of Bangladesh, focusing on the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Textiles & Jute. In this advisory role, he is instrumental in shaping the country’s trade policies and improving the economic and industrial landscape of Bangladesh. His extensive experience in business, combined with his vision for sustainable development, makes him a key figure in driving the nation's growth during this transitional period.
